Build loyalty programmes on real spending data
Personalise rewards and card recommendation tools with real spending data, whichever bank your members use.
Develop reward programmes that foster long-term customer loyalty
Every member spends differently, so why settle for a one-size-fits-all rewards programme?
Loyalty programmes work best when the rewards match how people really spend. With open banking, members choose to share their transaction data with your programme. The data comes directly from their bank to your app, so it’s accurate and up to date.
Transaction data lets you segment members precisely, personalise rewards and recommend the right products. Enable Banking connects your programme to 2,700+ banks across 30 countries through a single API.
Members can connect their bank in seconds. There are no complicated forms to fill in or receipts to upload.
We use official PSD2 APIs only and are ISO 27001 certified. We never monetise any of your customers’ data.
In practice: SAS EuroBonus
SAS EuroBonus built its Card Matcher on bank data from Enable Banking. Members connect their bank, see their annual spending by category, and find out which EuroBonus card would earn them the most points.
Why Open Banking?
Personalisation built on real data
Our API provides the data you need to build loyalty experiences tailored to each member's purchase activity. The data shows where members actually spend and when they start to drift away, so you can send fewer, more relevant offers.
Card recommendations
Build tools to show members which credit card would earn them the most rewards, based on their real spending rather than guesses or estimates.
Automatic Proof of Purchase
Confirm qualifying purchases from transaction data, with no receipts or promo codes. Members get their rewards faster, with fewer disputes.
Rewards without branded cards
Members don’t need to register a loyalty card. You can reward everyday spending at participating merchants, whichever bank or card they pay with.
Seamless Onboarding
Onboard customers swiftly and securely without manual document uploads. Verify account details and ownership in seconds.
Trusted across Europe
More than 200 partners, including SAS EuroBonus, rely on Enable Banking to power their products. See how we can enable you to build time-saving, revenue-generating features for your customers.

FAQs
-
Open banking is a regulated framework, set out in the EU’s PSD2, that lets customers securely share their bank data with an app or service they choose. The customer grants their consent, the data travels directly from their bank to that app, and they can withdraw access at any time. Open banking also lets apps start payments straight from a customer’s bank account, known as pay-by-bank.
How loyalty and rewards programmes use it
Earning without a branded card. Programmes can reward members for everyday spending with partner merchants, whichever bank or card they pay with.
Automatic proof of purchase. No receipt uploads or promo codes. The transaction data confirms the purchase, so members are rewarded faster and with fewer disputes.
Relevant offers. Spending categories show what members actually care about, so programmes can send fewer, better-targeted offers.
Showing members what they could earn. SAS EuroBonus uses open banking through Enable Banking to show members how many points their real spending could earn.
Rewards at checkout. Pay-by-bank costs merchants less than card payments, and some of that saving can go into rewards.

With open banking, you can access bank and financial data, including transaction histories and account balances. We fetch raw data directly from banks and harmonise it into a consistent format without passing it through third-party models. Your products built on top of this data can identify relevant patterns and target consumers with personalised loyalty and rewards offers.

Enable banking lets customers share their transaction data with an app or service, with their consent. The data is pulled directly from the customer’s bank to the chosen app, so it’s accurate, up to date and can’t be altered along the way. That means tools can work from what people actually spend, not estimates.
Card recommendations. Instead of asking customers to estimate their spending, a tool can look at a year of real transactions and show which card would have paid off best. For example: “Card A would have earned this customer 30,00 points last year, Card B 17,000.” SAS EuroBonus does this with its Card Matcher. Members connect their bank, see their annual spend by category, and get a calculation of which EuroBonus credit card would earn them the most points.
Loyalty programmes. A brand can confirm a qualifying purchase directly from the customer’s transaction data, whichever bank or card they used. That makes it easier to offer personalised rewards, reward customers fairly and notice when someone stops coming back. Pay-by-bank also costs merchants less than card payments. -
PSD2 APIs can usually access account holder details, transaction histories and account balances across banks. When a bank includes codes, such as merchant category codes, our API fetches those details too. We obtain this data directly from banks and harmonise it into one consistent format, without passing it through third-party models. With your product built on top of the data that we pull from banks, you can identify patterns in spending habits, merchant categories, share of wallet and brand interactions. For a loyalty and rewards provider, this means offerings tailored to the end consumer.
-
Absolutely. Open Banking enhances your programs by enabling quick transaction authorisations and immersive personalisation.
-
Open banking data makes rewards and offers more relevant. Members get quicker onboarding and more personalised perks because rewards are based on how they actually spend rather than generic rules.
For example, SAS built its EuroBonus Card Matcher with data from Enable Banking. The tool uses members’ real spending to show how many points they could earn with different EuroBonus cards, so they can choose the option that suits them. Read the full story. -
When a new member connects their bank at sign-up, our API provides account details such as the IBAN and account holder name directly from their bank. You can use this data to confirm the account is real and belongs to the member. This helps prevent one person from opening several memberships. The confirmed account details can also be used as the destination for rewards and rebates.
-
Yes, customer consent is mandatory.
Open banking operates on the principle of customer-controlled data, meaning that customers must explicitly agree to share their financial data for it to be used to offer personalised loyalty and rewards programmes or for any other purposes. For businesses, this encourages transparency, and for consumers, trust. Consumers can review or revoke access to their data at any time.
-
Yes, your customers’ data privacy and security are paramount, with our API ensuring no storage or access from third parties.
-
Enable Banking is a neutral open banking provider, regulated by FIN-FSA. Your customers always own their data and can revoke access to their data at any time. We never monetise any of your customers' data.
Every data flow is governed by PSD2, built on explicit customer consent, and protected end-to-end with strong encryption. We only use official PSD2 APIs to access customer data, which is stored only for the duration for which it is required (usually less than a minute).
Our information security management system is ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified, giving our partners and their customers the assurance that our commitment to security is backed by audited, continually improved processes. More information regarding customer data storage can be found here: Privacy Notice.

With open banking, a member connects their bank account to a loyalty programme once and grants consent. The programme reads transactions from that account, spots purchases at participating merchants and awards the points. It works for debit card purchases and other payments made from that account. Credit card accounts can also be connected where the bank makes them available. The loyalty provider doesn’t need a separate deal with a card network.
We provide neutral data infrastructure connecting our partners to data from 2,700+ banks across 30 European countries. We never monetise any of your customers’ data. Pricing is based on connected accounts, not API calls or sessions, so however much data you fetch, costs stay predictable as you grow.
Our documentation is thorough, our sandbox reflects production, and when we update our API, you don’t need to make any changes on your end.

As a second-generation open banking provider, we only connect to banks through their official PSD2 APIs. We never use screen-scraping or other workarounds.
Once you integrate with our API, we handle the connection to each bank behind it. For loyalty and rewards programmes, this means you receive reliable account and transaction data in a harmonised format, whichever bank it comes from.
-
No, Enable Banking does not provide reward calculation or data categorisation features.
We provide raw data directly from banks and harmonise it without passing it through any third-party models. The data we retrieve can then be used by our partners to perform detailed financial analysis, calculations and categorisation using their own preferred tools and models.
If you need help with categorisation or reward calculation, our team can recommend specialist partners in different markets. Just let us know when you chat with us. -
